Dear Friends and Supporters,
Since 2014, we have joined the international community in observing Urban October and celebrating World Cities Day to facilitate social inclusion, gender equality and equitable mobility for all. The theme this year, ‘Act local to go Global’, rings particularly true as we mark the one year anniversary of the Global Plan and the launch of the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030.
In this spirit, we are so excited to launch our ‘Mobility for All’ Global Plan Campaign on Instagram, the result of engaging youth through a collaboration with RMIT students in Vietnam. Head over to our @SafeRoadsForLife account and follow us to raise your voice for an urban city and mobility that meet your needs!
When youth talk about their desires for a safer mobilty, we find beautiful and emotive messages as showcased by the ‘Keep it in your head’ PSA video launched earlier this month. At the closing workshop of the Heads Up Project, the highlight was hearing from the students behind the video and their message of hope for safer roads.
In Thailand, with support from Toll Group, education for safe road behaviours put students back at the center of safety as part of the
Hauling Safety program by hosting a handover ceremony to celebrate the recent completion of the road safety modifications at Promrach Rangsan School.
Building on the legacy of the passing of the national helmet law of 2007 in Vietnam, we know that just wearing a helmet is not enough. A plan has been launched to improve the effectiveness of helmet quality regulation, cracking down on low quality helmets that are being used, putting people at high risk of being injured.
Prudential Cambodia and Prudence Foundation held a
SAFE STEPS Kids Road Safety Day to help improve and raise awareness on road safety for Cambodian students. Through interactive games and fun activities, students reinforced their road safety skills and knowledge which focused on motorcycle driving and helmet use for eligible students aged 15 or above, understanding speed limits, avoiding distractions, and the importance of pedestrian safety.
When we think of World Cities Day and what it means to us, we are dreaming of cities dedicated to humans. Cities dedicated to children cycling and playing with broad sidewalks for pedestrians, public transport that is easy to access and less motorised vehicles for not only cleaner air but also a greener future.
And you?
What are your dreams for your city in the future?
